Fall Wedding Ideas You May Have Overlooked
When it comes to perusing for fall wedding ideas, you’ll likely be confronted with an onslaught of orange and yellow colored dresses, flowers, centerpieces, and so on. One might think that having a wedding in the fall means that you must love Halloween, autumn leaves, and all things orange and black. And while that may be true for some, it’s not true for all. In fact, autumn has a lot more to offer for your wedding color and decor than you may have initially realized.
A Unique Color Palette
With fall comes an entirely new color palette. Yes, it’s true, the season sees colors trending toward the warmer hues of red, orange, and brown, and away from the summer vibes of blue, green, and white. However, if you’d prefer your wedding party not look like the foliage on an oak tree, try adding in some muted purples and blues. Plum is very much a fall color, as are dark, muted blues or greens. You can infuse these colors both in your wedding party and in your decor.
You can also involve jewel tones like amber, topaz, garnet, sapphire, or emerald. These can come in the form of glasses and centerpieces, to bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen ties. The jewel tones balance nicely with tans and linens, as well as muted colors like plum or mauve. These are some nice ways to involve a warmer color palette without overwhelming everyone or appearing tacky.
Believe it or not, gold and copper are actually considered neutral colors these days. It may seem strange, or even gaudy at first, but when balanced with other colors, these metallic hues actually evoke autumn quite nicely. Get some gold or copper spray paint with a metallic hue, and let your imagination go wild. They can give ordinary things, like candle holders, vases, etc., a rustic look that’s very popular in fall decoration.
Celebrate the Harvest
Fall is the harvest season, and, despite our modern era, it still plays a large role in our culture. It’s the season of fresh picked apples, the smell of cinnamon, homemade pies, and pumpkin spice everything. (No, really. Everything.)
For some fresh fall wedding ideas, use the harvest to your advantage. Sure, you can get some decorative gourds, but you can also use the entire produce section to help you decorate. With the harvest comes vibrant and textured fruits and vegetables that make for unique adornments. There are apples of course, but pears, eggplants, and artichokes can add some rich autumn color as well. These can be used to create table centerpieces, seat decorations, and so on. It can also be less expensive than buying flowers, and will make your wedding unique and naturally colorful. However, if you’re not psyched about the idea of using actual produce in your decorations, you can still employ their colors to achieve the same effect.
You can also add in some stalks of hay or bunches of wheat to give flower arrangements or bouquets an autumnal feel. Finally, for a treat your guests are sure to love, you can use candied or caramel covered apples not only as party favors for your guests but also as place holders at the table!
Leaves Offer Endless Possibilities
The fall leaves are also less expensive than flowers, and equally effective for decoration. They come in an assortment of colors, shapes, and textures. You can find leaves to match nearly every color palette, and there’s almost no limit to the amount of things you can use them for. Coat them with metallic spray paint, and you can turn them into simplistic placeholders or name tags for your guests. You can layer them on top of each other, employing different colors, and create table runners or placemats. Hang them from the ceiling, or use them at the bottom of candle holders.
You can also use them as a guest book. Cut paper or cloth in the shape of leaves and have your guests write well wishes on them. Another cool idea is to draw or paint a large tree with bare branches on canvas, paper, or even a block of wood. Have your guests dip their thumb in paint, and then place it on the branches where the leaves should go. Once the paint dries, they can use a marker or pen to write their name on their leaf/thumb print. Now you have a unique guest book or family tree!
Pumpkins Can Spice Things Up
If nothing else, fall is certainly the time for pumpkins, pumpkins, and pumpkins galore! But the lovely thing is that pumpkins no longer have to be orange – though they certainly can be if that’s your desire! You can find real pumpkins that are white or even a little yellow. And fake pumpkins can come in just about any color you want! You can use them to line the aisles of seats, as decorative centerpieces, placeholders, or really whatever you want.
Some unique fall wedding ideas include carving pumpkins, too. But, rather than doing a witch on a broomstick or a scary face, you can do your bride and groom initials, names, dates, etc. A pumpkin also makes for a unique, and natural vase for your flower arrangements. Just cut open the top and hollow it out as if you were going to carve it. Fill the inside with a bit of water and pop your flowers right in there!
